Competitions

This year there will be two Mix n Match competitions, open and advanced, as well as a surprise competition on Sunday night! 🌟✨

Mix n Match is a competition focused on social dancing! In the preliminary round you will rotate partners, dancing to different songs, whilst in the final you will be paired up with someone randomly and compete together!

Please note that you can only join one of the Mix n Match competitions, but there are no restrictions for the Sunday Showdown.

We have amazing prizes up for grabs for the winners of both levels; these will be announced during the festival.

Competition registration will open in October, and it is possible to register at the reception desk over the festival weekend.

Open Mix n Match

The Open Mix n Match competition will be held on Friday evening, with the prelims earlier that day. For many this may be their first ever competition and the judges will mainly focus on partnership and people having fun. 🪩😍

People in our highest festival level (Ulriken) cannot sign up for this level.

In the final there will be two spotlights, both to Rhythm n Blues music! 💙🎶 The first spotlight song will be around 140bpm, and the second around 180bpm.

Advanced Mix n Match

The Advanced Mix n Match competition will be held on Saturday evening, with the prelims earlier that day. This level is open to everyone, including people with party passes and evening passes.

For the first time at Swing Brother, Swing, the finals will be done to live music!

The first spotlight will be to Rhythm n Blues music, around 160bpm, and the second will be more Lindy focussed with music at around 210bpm.

Sunday Showdown

The Sunday Showdown is an informal competition with no sign-ups, and is open for anyone to join!

When our MC says it’s time, find a partner and come to the middle of the room. It is only after you join that you will be find out exactly what the contest is. 😏

You will compete with your initial partner in the “prelims”, but if you get selected to go through to the final you will rotate and dance with a randomly selected partner.
